SCHOOLS.
Number of Schools and Accommodation.
In 1915 there were in Croydon :
20 provided schools, including 54 departments, with
accommodation for 21,100 children—this is the same
as in 1914.
15 non-provided schools, including 26 departments, with
accommodation for 5,543 children—in 1914 there were
14 such schools, with 34 departments, with accommodation
for 5,538 children.
The total provision in 1915 in the borough for elementary school
children amounted to 35 schools, with 80 departments, and accommodation
for 26,643 children, as compared with 34 schools, 88 departments
and 26,629 children in 1914.
The number of children on the register on December 31st, 1915,
was 25,043, as compared with 25,613 in 1914.
School Buildings and Accommodation.
War Hospitals. Five schools were taken over by the Military
Authorities for this purpose. The school children thus displaced
have been accommodated either in other schools for half-day work
or in other buildings. The medical inspections have been carried
out normally in every case.

Oval Road Council Schools The trough closets on the boys' side
of the school were abolished, and a block of six separate
pedestal water-closets installed in their stead.
Shirley Schools (non-provided). Four new lavatory basins were
fixed and lead trapped waste-pipes fitted.
The sanitary arrangements of all the schools have been.
regularly inspected during the year. They have been generally
well kept and in a clean condition.
