The birth rate for the year for the entire District
was 25.7, as compared with 27.3 in 1904, 28.2 in
1903, 26.0 in 1902, 28.11 in 1901, and 23.1 in 1900.
The birth rate in England and Wales in 1905 was
27.2 per thousand of the population, which is 0.7 per
thousand below the rate in 1904, and is much lower
than the rate in any other year on record; compared
with the average of the decade 1895-1904 the birth rate
for 1905 shows a decrease of 1.8 per thousand of
population.
