Clean Air Act, 1956
The Council adopted Building Byelaws requiring the provision
in new buildings of such arrangements for heating and cooking as
were calculated to prevent so far as practicable the emission of
smoke. In October a Domestic Heating and Clean Air Exhibition
was held at the Town Hall in an effort to acquaint the general
public with trends in domestic heating with particular emphasis
on Clean Air. The Council in addition to installing modern fuel
burning appliances in their older type properties have introduced
electric under floor heating in one of their newly erected blocks
of flats.
Industrial smoke and cement dust would still appear to be
persistent but judging by enquiries received, industrialists are
fully aware of the problems and their obligations under the Clean
Air Act.
