Births.
The 400 live births notified showed an increase of 30
compared with last year's figure. The birth rate per 1,000
of the population is 14.4 as against 13.9 last year. The birth
rate for England and Wales was 15.3.
Deaths.
This year we recorded 253 deaths out of a population
of 27,760 representing a death rate of 9.11 against 9.56 in
1951. The death rate for England and Wales was 11.3.
Infant Deaths.
During the year 10 infants died before reaching the age
of one year. There were 8 in 1951.
Rate of Infant Deaths under one year per 1,000 live
births was 25 as against 20.7 last year. That of England
and Wales was 27.6.
