Priority Dockets for sheets were available for expectant
mothers being confined in their own homes. 251
dockets were issued during the half-year to 113 women.
Care of Premature Infants.
Daily visits were paid commencing immediately on
discharge from hospital, and in the case of home confinements
as soon as the Midwife had left the case, and
continued until the child was one month old.
Two sets of equipment including Draughtsproof
Cots, Blankets, Hot Water Bottles, Cot Mattress, Pillows,
and Electric Blanket, were available for use in the District.
The total number of premature babies notified
who were born:—
(a) At Home 7
(b) In Hospital 3.
(i) The number of those born at home:—
(a) Who were nursed entirely at home 7.
(b) Who died during the first 24 hours —
(c) Who survived at the end of one month 7.
(ii) The number of those born in Hospital:—
(a) Who died during the first 24 hours —
(b) Who survived at the end of one month 3.
Total from 1st January, 1948, to the 5th July, 1948
10. This figure does not include outward transfers.
Care of Illegitimate Children.
Co-operation was continued between the Staff of
the Health Department and the Moral Welfare Officer
of the Rochester Diocese. The Council continued to
make contribution toward the maintenance of unmarried
mothers admitted to the Diocesan Homes.
