Shops Acts.
591 visits were made during the year. During the
short days the majority of Shop Keepers closed their
premises in advance of the legal hours to allow their
Assistants to get home before the blackout.
Smoke Abatement.
Activity in connection with smoke abatement has
been supended for the war period and in one or two
instances installation of Mechanical Stokers has been
held up.
Swimming Bath.
Retained popularity in 1940. By installing additional
ozone cells the growth of algae was reduced and some
very satisfactory reports on water samples were received
from the County Pathologist.

Eradication of the Bed Bug.
