Adverse reports on samples of milk were investigated with a view
to improvement of future supplies, and in this respect six bottle rinses
were examined to ascertain the efficiency or otherwise of bottle washing.
Biological examination revealed one sample of milk to be T.B.
positive. As a result of investigations made by the Divisional Inspector
of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, one cow from the herd
concerned was slaughtered under the Tuberculosis Order, 1938.
A further bulk sample of milk submitted for biological examination
was certified non-tuberculous.
Milk (Special Designations) Regulations, 1936/46.
Licences to sell milk under the above Regulations were issued as
follows: -—

Ice-Cream.
Twenty-four samples of ice-cream were examined for bacterial quality,
12 of which were reported as unsatisfactory and indicating various degrees
of contamination.
The high percentage of unsatisfactory samples was chiefly due to
repeat samples from the same source, four retailers in all being involved.
In one instance the product sold was chocolate ice (prepacked)
purchased by the vendor in bulk from outside the District, and upon
