Licences to slaughter animals were issued to four slaughtermen.
Notifications of intention to slaughter are forwarded regularly by
the occupiers of the licensed slaughter-houses, and the Sanitary Inspectors
make an inspection of all carcasses before they are placed upon the
market.
BAKEHOUSES.
There are sixteen bakehouses within the District, seven of which
are used for baking bread, the remainder being chiefly used for making
confectionery. One bakehouse was closed during the year and one new
bakehouse registered. All the premises were inspected periodically and
are generally well kept.
OTHER FOOD PREMISES.
There has been no alteration in the number of fish friers during the
year, and their businesses have been generally well conducted. No
complaints have been received regarding them, and routine inspections
have revealed little to which exception could be taken. This occupation
is not scheduled as an offensive trade in the District.
All shops, kitchens of restaurants, tea rooms and other places where
food is prepared or sold were inspected and appropriate action taken
where necessary.
FACTORIES AND WORKSHOPS.
There are 148 Factories and Workshops within the District, of which
49 are Factories and 99 are Workshops.
In addition there are 18 Workplaces.
