derived filtered water together with well water from Eynsford,
Horton Kirby, North Orpington, Shortlands, Wilmington, Darenth
and Bexley Wells. A summary of the results of the bacteriological
and chemical examination of these various sources is given. These
waters are not plumbo-solvent.
No new sources of supply were instituted by the Board in this
area during 1962 and there were no new important extensions of
trunk mains, but a total length of 1,838 yards of service mains were
laid during the year. All new and repaired mains are disinfected
with chlorine before being brought into service and samples of
water collected from them are analysed to ensure that the water
is up to the level of quality normally supplied.
As well as being of the satisfactory quality indicated in the
tables, so far as is known the quantity has been adequate and the
pressure maintained in the mains. It was not necessary to take
action in respect of any form of contamination.
One house in the district is supplied from a stand pipe in the
garden and so far as is known, all other houses have the water
piped into the dwelling.
Three privately owned wells are in use supplying water for
commercial purposes. Six samples taken from these wells all
proved to be satisfactory.
