SECTION B.
GENERAL PROVISION OF HEALTH SERVICES
FOR THE AREA.
DISINFECTION
Very little current or terminal disinfection in connection with
infectious diseases, is now carried out by the Department, and less
importance is attached to the spraying of rooms or treatment of
library books with formalin. The same can be said of the stoving
of bedding in the Council's steam disinfector at the Main Road
Depot. Indeed, the modern interior sprung mattress does not lend
itself to heat treatment and except for the more serious form of
infection, such as smallpox, the damage caused to the article would
be out of all proportion to the preventive value achieved.
Nevertheless, the Chief Disinfector and his assistant do carry
out disinfection in appropriate cases and on request. During 1962,
the following treatments were effected.
