Twelve Dairy premises are registered in the district and 19
persons are registered as Distributors of Milk.

The following are details of licences to deal in specially designated milks, issued by the Council in respect of 1960 :—

During the year the Milk (Special Designation) Regulations
1960, were made. This will have the effect of simplifying the procedure
for licencing. The Supplementary Licence will be abolished
and licences will in future be issued for periods of five years.
No processing of milk takes place within the district.
Sale takes place from automatic vending machines on the forecourts
of three premises.
BACTERIOLOGICAL EXAMINATIONS.
Twenty-four samples of designated milk were taken with the
following results :—
Number passing phosphatase test 22
Number failing phosphatase test —
Number passing methylene blue test 22
Number giving unsatisfactory methylene blue result —
Number passing the turbidity test (sterilised) 2
Twenty-four samples of milk were submitted for chemical
examination, all of which proved satisfactory.
ICE CREAM.
Ten samples were taken during the year. Six were placed in
Grade I, one in Grade II and three in Grade III.
No manufacture of ice cream takes place within the district.
PIGGERIES.
There are 14 piggeries in the district compared with 11 in the
previous year. The number of pigs kept, has risen from 1,553 to
2,300.
One large piggery houses 1,000 animals and two others 500 and
400 respectively.
Thirty-five visits have been paid to these sties.
