Scarlet Fever.
Eighty-nine cases were notified, and twenty-five of these were
admitted to hospital. No deaths were recorded.
Although the total was somewhat above the figure for the
previous year when 56 cases were notified, the great majority were
once again of a mild character and free from complications.
Smallpox and Vaccination.
No cases of this disease occurred in the area during 1958, but
several contacts were under surveillance at various times during the
year.
The policy of offering re-vaccination to all members of the
staff of the Health Department was maintained.
During the year a total of 380 International Certificates of
Vaccination passed through the hands of the department for
purposes of authenticating doctors' signatures.
The County Medical Officer informs me that a total of 814
residents in the area received primary vaccination and 74 revaccination
during 1958.
Tuberculosis.
The following table shows the position with regard to
tuberculosis, with comparative figures since 1945 (as corrected by
inward and outward transfers).
There were ten deaths from tuberculosis during the year.
