A special section of the Engineer and Surveyor's Department
has now been set up to deal with the question of drainage and
possible overloading of the sewerage system.
In a few shops the contaminated flood water affected foodstuff
and it was necessary to withdraw from sale items totalling
16 cwts. 1 qtr. 25 lbs.
RODENT CONTROL.
Two Rodent Operatives have been employed during the year.
It is interesting to note that the total number of treatments and
retreatments necessary shows a decrease of 101 when compared
with 1957. There has been unquestionably, a lowering of the
incidence of rat infestation in the district. This may be due to a
number of causes, including more intensive treatment and use of
better techniques and poisons. Some alteration in natural cycle of
the pests may also have played its part.

The following is a summary of the work carried out during the year:—
