This area does not include the Commons at Chislehurst and
St. Paul's Cray, nor land under the control of the National
Trust, which was recently increased by the gift of a tract of
woodland originally part of the Hawkwood Estate, Chislehurst.
The district is well provided with open spaces of many kinds.
They vary from the orchard lands of the Green Belt, woodland of
the Commons at Chislehurst and St. Paul's Cray, to the numerous
games pitches and well kept Parks throughout the area.
Improvement to parks and open spaces continues, the principal
advancement during the year again being related to Hoblingwell
Wood, St. Paul's Cray, where drainage has been completed, as has
sowing of the remaining two terraces.
The popularity of the Games Warden Scheme has led to its
extension to include no fewer than five of the Council's Parks.
Wardens are now installed for the summer holiday period at
Marlborough Park, Penhill Park, Sidcup Place, Mottingham Sports
Ground and Hoblingwell Wood. This facility has given rise to a
greater use of the Parks and to a better standard of behaviour
amongst the growing children.
