The above figures followed the expected trend, namely, the
highest incidence of illness occurred during January and February,
the lowest level was reached in August, after which it began to rise
again.
MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS.
Thirty-nine members, or potential members of the staff were
medically examined during the year.
UNEMPLOYMENT.
I am indebted to the Manager of the Local Employment
Exchange for the following information with regard to unemployment
in the area during 1958 :—
" There was a slight increase in unemployment throughout
1958, but taking into consideration the population, the numbers
have been very small, with an average of 350.
Local firms continue to hold their own, and the unemployment
comes to a large extent from firms out of the district."
