The Council maintains no less than three-quarters of a square
mile of open spaces within the district. Some of these provide
quiet, unspoilt ramblage, some are well laid out Parks with the
usual amenities, and the rest consist of sports fields. Provision is
thus made for all sections of the community and the general health
of the populace is thereby benefitted.
This area does not include the Commons at Chislehurst and
St. Paul's Cray, nor land under the control of the National
Trust, which was recently increased by the gift of a tract of
woodland originally part of the Hawkwood Estate, Chislehurst.
The principal advancement during the year has been connected
with improvements at Hoblingwell Woods, St. Paul's Cray, where
further provisions have been made for organised games.
Games Wardens have been installed at the last mentioned
Park, as well as at Marlborough Park and Mottingham Sports
Ground. They have been much appreciated by the children in
holiday time.
