Committee, a potentially serious menace to health has been
removed and on that score a major triumph has been achieved after
years of frustration and disappointment.
As I promised at the beginning of this letter. I have
endeavoured to keep to the bright side and avoid reference to the
less satisfactory features and hope I have succeeded at least in
creating the impression that things could be a great deal worse.
My thanks are due to Mr. Kermode, the Chief Public Health
Inspector, for the great volume of work he has achieved so
efficiently during the year, but without the willing and able cooperation
of all members of the staff of the Public Health
Department, including my deputy, Dr. Kelynack, satisfactory
results could not be obtained. During the year we welcomed Mr.
Webber on the Inspectoral staff and Mrs. Bunton on the clerical
staff, both these officers replacing others who had obtained fresh
appointments.
I should also like to thank all those organisations and
individuals, the latter including the local doctors who once again
have been so helpful in so many ways.
In conclusion my gratitude goes to the Chairman and Members
of the Public Health Committee for their continued enthusiasm for
the cause they represent and without whose help so little could be
achieved.
I am,
Your obedient Servant,
H. B. C. CARTER-LOCKE,
Medical Officer of Health.
