1 am indebted to the Director of Water Examination of the
Metropolitan Water Board for the following information on the
supply of water to the Urban District during the year 1956:—
" The supply to the district of Chislehurst and Sidcup in 1956
was adequate and of high quality. The water was derived from
the following sources: Bexley, Orpington, North Orpington,
Shortlands, Eynsford, Horton Kirby, Wilmington and Darenth,
together with Thames-derived filtered water via Shortlands Pumping
Station.
There were no extensions of trunk mains in 1956, but 4-inch
service mains were laid in various estate roads.
Bacteriological analyses of samples of water from these various
sources of supply are made at least five times a week, and
consistently satisfactory results have been obtained from samples
of water passing into supply.
Chemical analyses of the samples are also made at regular
intervals. The following tables give the results of chemical and
bacteriological analyses of the various sources of supply during
1956, before and after treatment.
