FOOD COMPLAINTS.
A total of 31 complaints regarding the condition of food, or
impurities contained in it. were received.
All of these were fully investigated and the food stuff concerned
was traced back to its source. In some instances the complaint arose
from a misconception on the part of the purchaser, but in others
warnings were issued to the shopkeepers or manufacturers.
In appropriate cases improved methods of dealing with the food
were suggested by the Inspectors and adopted by the tradesmen.
Evidence of gross carelessness led the Committee to institute
legal proceedings in three cases, entailing:—
Cigarette end in loaf.
Tobacco in sugar confectionery.
Mould growth in meat pies.
