A survey was carried out on the St. Paul's Cray Estate from
the 8th to 17th June, 1953. when a total of 3.685 attended the
Unit. Of this number, nine were significant new cases, or 2.4 per
1.000. compared with 4 per 1.000 at the 1952 survey held in Chislehurst
and Sidcup, when 3,545 persons attended.
It would appear from our records that cases of Tuberculosis
are now being notified very much earlier in the disease, which in
itself gives more chance of treatment being successful. The progressive
fall in the death rate year by year is common throughout
the country.
Food Poisoning.
There were no confirmed cases of Food Poisoning in the area
during 1953.
Other Infectious Diseases.
In addition to the infectious diseases enumerated above,
notifications were received as under :—
Dysentery 36
Erysipelas 15
Pneumonia (all forms) 83
