The Chalk Pit. Ruxley site (reference (i) above) occupied to
capacity by 36 families, nearly all of which have licences for their
dwellings issued by the Council. This enables some control to be
exercised. Most of the occupants go away for fruit picking during
the summer months, some of whom, however, leave their vans on
the site. The adjoining site (No. (ii)) is a new extension.
The Old Brickfield. Baugh Estate, Footscray (site No. (iii)).
is owned by the Council and all the caravans are licensed.
Corke's Meadow, St. Paul's Cray (No. (xiv)), now entirely
surrounded by houses and in a built up area, remains a major
problem. Consultations have taken place during the year with the
Minister of Housing and Local Government. London County
Council, the prospective owners of the site. Kent County Council,
or the Planning Authority with a view to the removal of the families
from the site. It is hoped to re-site some, if not all, of the families
on another site in the district.
Pickers Huts.
The two camps of pickers huts in the district were not used
during the vear.
