Full details of the new cases and mortality during the year
are shown in Table V of the Appendix.
The number of new cases notified during the year showed a
decrease of 8 over the corresponding figure for 1951. There were
90 deletions from the Register as against 29 for the year 1951.
Food Poisoning.
Thirteen cases were notified during the year. There were
three outbreaks with a total of six cases, and seven single cases
notified. With the exception of one single case, when the agent
causing the upset was identified as salmonella typhi murium, it
was not possible to ascertain the cause of the illness.
Dysentery.
The incidence of this disease dropped sharply during 1952,
only fifteen cases being notified as against ninety-five for the
previous year. Four of these cases were removed to hospital.
