The site of (i) has been acquired by the Council for other
purposes. No action is being taken for the time being to evict
the persons occupying the vans—one of which is unlicensed.
At site (ii) the vans are licensed annually and this does have
some (if limited) control over them. Nearly all the occupants go
away fruit picking during the summer months. The owner of
the site wishes it to be vacated. The water supply was cut off
and notices to quit were issued in the spring—since when no
rents have been paid. The occupants paid for a new supply and
a stand pipe was erected on land adjacent to the site.
Site (iv)—Corke's Meadow, Leesons Hill, is an old established
site, to be compulsorily acquired by the London County Council.
The owner of the site had the sanitary conveniences closed and
the water supply cut off during the year but they have since been
re-opened and the fencing round the site which was damaged
during the war has been repaired. The site is unsatisfactory and
unkempt as are a number of the dwellers therein who damage
and foul the conveniences considerably.
