URBAN DISTRICT COUNCIL OF
CHISLEHURST & SIDCUP
HEALTH REPORT FOR THE YEAR 1944
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have pleasure in submitting my Annual Health Report
for the year 1944, this being the twenty-second one presented
by me as your Medical Officer of Health.
The population of the District as estimated by the
Registrar-General for mid-year 1944 is 57,470, as compared
with 60,130 last year.
An increase in the Birth Rate for the year took place, viz.,
20.0 per thousand of population, as against 17.8 last year.
A slight increase in the Death Rate also occurred, the Rate
for the year being equal to 10.7 per thousand of population
as compared with 10.0 last year.
A decrease again took place in the Infantile Mortality
Rate, this being equal to 26 per thousand births, as compared
with 38 last year and 52 in 1942.
As far as infectious disease was concerned, there was a
reduction in the number of notifications received, viz., 1,370,
as against 1,603 last year. These notifications chiefly related
to cases of Measles, Scabies, Whooping Cough and Scarlet
F ever.
In presenting this Report, it is my desire to thank the
Council and all its Officers for their kind help and assistance,
and I would particularly desire to place on record my
appreciation of the efficient and loyal services rendered by
Mr. Allen and all members of the Public Health Department.
I am, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
P. N. CAVE,
Medical Officer of Health.
