DRAINAGE.
There were no important alterations during the year in the
drainage of the District.
During the year 15 yards of surface water sewer were laid.
CLOSET ACCOMMODATION.
The following is the approximate number of each type of
closet in use at the end of the year:—
Water closets draining to sewers 19,344
Water closets draining to cesspools 325
Earth closets or privy middens 5
Pail closets 52
WATER SUPPLY.
The mains of the Metropolitan Water Board supply this
District with water.
During the year 1,757 yards of new water mains were laid.
The following number of samples of water were submitted
for examination during the year:—
77 samples from wells, etc. (7 unsatisfactory) (in respect of
3 wells).
43 samples from piped supply.
HOUSE REFUSE COLLECTION.
No important change took place in the collection and disposal
of house refuse during the year.
HOUSING.
1. Inspection of Dwelling Houses during the year.
(1) (a) Total number of houses inspected for housing
defects (under Public Health or Housing Acts) 1,667
