There is a small private swimming pool which is open to
the public. Samples of the water taken during the year proved
to be satisfactory.
SMOKE ABATEMENT.
Observations for smoke nuisances are kept as required.
ERADICATION OF BED BUGS.
During the year 6 Council houses and 26 other premises
were found to be infested with bed bugs. All of these premises
were disinfested.
The method employed is to strip the woodwork, seal the
premises, and use a sulphurous spray and an insecticide fluid
(Lawverside).
The furniture of prospective tenants of Council houses is
inspected, and where necessary, disinfestation is carried out,
the bedding, etc., being steam disinfected. All Council houses
are disinfested upon vacation of tenants.
The work of disinfestation is carried out by the Council's
workmen, the owner of the premises doing any structural
work.
Close observation is kept on all suspected tenants, and
advice and leaflets are given to occupants of affected premises.
CAMPING SITES.
No sites were used for camping in this District during the
year.
