WATER SUPPLY.
The District is supplied with water by the mains of the
Metropolitan Water Board.
With the exception of about 24 premises, which obtain their
water from wells, the whole of the District has a main supply.
During the year approximately 3.17 miles of new mains
were laid.
One hundred and two samples of water were chemically
examined during the year, of which 96 were found to be
satisfactory. Suitable action was taken in the case of unsatisfactory
samples.
HOUSE REFUSE COLLECTION AND DISPOSAL.
A weekly collection of house refuse is undertaken by the
Council under the supervision of the Public Health Department.
The refuse is deposited in a tip which has been opened
during the year near Hockenden.
The question of the erection of a refuse disposal plant has
been under consideration. Tenders have been received for this
work, but are now held in abeyance owing to negotiations for
the erection of a refuse pulverising and separation plant.
The Council does not undertake the cleansing of cesspools
or earth closets. The contents are disposed of by the occupants
on their land, or the work is undertaken by contractors.
