Bye-laws for the control of the premises are in force.
Your Inspector, Mr. Nightingale, continues to attend the cattle
market at Orpington for the purpose of keeping in touch with any
sales of old worn-out cows, with a view of ascertaining their destination.
Ceneral Food Supplies.
Articles for human consumption, such as those brought round
on hawkers' carts, including fish, fruits, etc., sold in shops other
than butcher and bakers, have also been kept under observation.
About 501bs. of meat was voluntarily surrendered and destroyed
in February, at a farm at West Wickham.
Special observation has been kept on the manner in which the
fruit and vegetables grown in the District have been gathered and
packed for market, with special reference to the tubs in which
perishable fruit is generally packed. No cause for complaint has
been found. (See hop, fruit picking, etc.)
The 27 bakehouses in the District have with one exception (limewashing
required) been found to be clean and in good condition.
No action has been taken under Section 117 of the Public Health
Act, 1875.
No outbreaks of food poisoning have been met with, but the
Local Government Board's circular as to food poisoning has been
noted.
