The disease was prevalent throughout the year, every month
adding to the number as below :

It is gratifying to report that not a single case ended fatally,
and the following shows the age-periods at which the cases
occurred:—

Diphtheria produced more than twice as many cases in 1898,
than in the previous year, viz : 63, as compared with 29 in 1897.
Only two parishes were free from Diphtheria throughout the
year, viz: Downe and Knockholt; and the cases occurred in the
remaining parishes as follows :—

Chislehurst 4 „
Cudham 1 case.
Farnborough 1 „
Foots Cray 6 cases.
Hayes 5 „
Keston 1 case.
Mottingham 1 „
North Cray 1 „
Orpington 27 cases.
St. Mary Cray 5 „
St. Paul's Cray 5 „
West Wickham 3 „ and at the
Workhouse lease.
63 cases.
