Bye-laws for securing the decent lodging and accommodation of
hop pickers have been in force in this District since the year 1875,
but as a great number of persons come into the District for fruitpicking,
the District Council have thought it desirable to extend
these bye-laws to include those engaged in the picking of fruit and
vegetables.
These bye-laws are now framed, and only await the sanction of
the Local Government Board.
Mr. Powell's and Mr. Dunlop's Reports of work done during
the year, and the customary Tables and Vital Statistics are
appended.
I have the honour to be,
Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
JAMES SCOTT TEW.
March nth, 1899.
