PREVENTION OF DAMAGE BY PESTS ACT, 1949.
One full time Rodent Operative is employed by the
Department for the treatment of surface infestations, and the
test baiting and maintenance treatment of sewers is carried
out by men under the control of the Borough Engineer.
No charge is made for treatment carried out at private
dwelling houses, but the occupiers of business premises are
charged for disinfestation work.
Most of the infestations found are of minor character,
and a large proportion of the cases dealt with at private
dwelling houses are connected with the keeping of animals.
Details of surface infestations dealt with during the period are set out below.

PET ANIMALS ACT, 1951.
Licences to keep pet shops were issued to 6 persons
under the above Act.
One contravention of the conditions of the Licence was
found and a warning issued to the person concerned.
