The population has tended to rise still further and it is
thought that it is now reaching saturation point which may be
in the neighbourhood of 90,000. The last population census
was held in 1931 and this would have been repeated in 1941
had it not been for the war. It is hoped that a new census will
be embarked upon in the near future, as this would shed much
light not only on the size of the population of the Borough but
also on certain aspects of its social structure.
