(b) Meat Inspection.
During most of the period covered by this Report
the slaughter-houses in the area were closed with the exception
of an occasional emergency slaughter.
In 1940 the distribution of meat from Smithfield
was decentralised' and one of the Regional Depots was
situate in this area. This has meant that a considerable
amount of the Inspectors time has been spent in inspecting
meat which was distributed from the Depot to this
and adjoining areas.
Damage was caused by enemy action to several meat
shops in the area, but fortunately the amount of meat
affected was not large.
