General
(a) Many Junior and Infant schools were visited by the Local
Safety Officer prior to the Christmas holidays, lectures and demonstrations
given, whilst a considerable amount of propoganda material, in the form
of games, painting hooks, puzzles, etc., were distributed to the children.
(b) The "Tufty Club" at the West Wickham Clinic, nas now a
membership of 186 children, all under the age of five years. Excellent
assistance and co-operation has been given to the Local Safety Officer
by the Clinic Staff and parents of these young children in the preparation
of demonstrations.
(c) The joint Road/Home Safety Exhibition by Beckenham and
Penge Councils was held at the Town Hall, Penge, from the 12th to
17th October.
This exhibition was indeed a great success, approximately 6,000
people attended during the week; many schools co-operated and regular
groups attended at half hour intervals, and were shown all the exhibits
and took advantage of the "Roadcraft" working models under the direction
of the many Police Instructors who were in attendance.
(d) Series of lectures on Road and Home Safety have been given
to Youth Clubs, Land Rangers and school groups during the year under
review; many of these lectures on Accidents in the Home being required
as part of the syllabus to qualify for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.
