BECKENHAM HOME SAFETY COMMITTEE
This voluntary Committee has been in existence for some years
and its members represent those local organisations best able to advise
on measures of accident prevention in the home.
It is not a Committee of the Authority but receives an annual
grant from the Accident Prevention Committee. Other funds are
extremely small and consist of voluntary donations. Funds are used
to purchase posters, leaflets and other publicity material from the
Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. Since 1955 it has
published a handbook containing information on emergency services,
first aid, the safe use of electricity in the home, the safe use of household
appliances and general safety measures in the home. It organises
competition essays on home safety among local school children and
arranges the distribution of leaflets and posters to schools, shops,
libraries and to organisations concerned with the welfare of the
elderly. The Committee meets every two months and is composed of
representatives of the following :—
