Meals on Wheels.
Twenty-seven persons are served with meals twice a week—on
Tuesday and Friday. It is principally run for the benefit of invalids
and elderly people who cannot do their shopping or cooking. Appeals
for such assistance usually come from Hospital Almoners, District
Nurses and through the Darby and Joan Clubs.
The meals are provided by a local Caterer and an allowance for
transport is made through the Local and County Authorities. The meals
are subsidised by voluntary funds, so those who cannot afford the full
cost of the meal obtain one at a very moderate sum. A total of 2,230
meals were served during 1953.
Luncheon Club.
A Luncheon Club is still being run by the West Wickham W.V.S.
and only a nominal charge is made for meals. An average of 25 to 30
meals are served weekly.

Beckenham and Swanley Hospitals and other work is done at the Heart
Hospital, West Wickham.

liaison with the Tuberculosis After Care Committee ; S.S.A.F.A.
(giving financial assistance and clothing) ; Area Pensions Officer ;
British Legion ; The Disabled Persons Committee ; Children's Homes ;
Child Welfare Clinics.
