ANTE- AND POST-NATAL PANEL.
The scheme approved by the Council whereby the ante-natal
examination of expectant mothers would be conducted by medical
practitioners practising in the district, continued in operation during
the year, and the total attendances were 622 compared with
1,014 in 1943.
The panel contains the names of most doctors practising in
the district.

The arrangements worked smoothly and the appointments
were well kept by doctors and patients.
The Assistant Medical'Officer saw 243 new cases, made 731
re-examinations of expectant mothers, and made 62 post-natal
examinations; when the Maternity Hospital was evacuated
Dr. Thomson took over the supervision of ante-natal cases.
The Obstetric Specialist, Mr. D. M. Linsday, held 9 sessions
and saw 11 ante-natal cases and 51 post-natal cases who made
56 attendances.
HOME HELPS.
Owing to the employment of women in industry it is now
practically impossible to get suitable people to act as Home Helps,
although the need is a very real one.
HOME VISITING

the Health Visitors made a home visit to 910 new cases. The work done is summarised below and the total visits 9,753 compare with 7,943 in 1943, but include no less than 2,404 unavailing visits due to movement of the population.
