WAR-TIME DAY NURSERIES
The provision of a third Day Nursery to serve the Coney Hall
area was recommended by the Ministry of Labour, and a prefabricated
building was provided and erected, and was ready for
occupation in June, 1944, but owing to enemy action was not
opened.
The# attendances at the two existing Nurseries was greatly
reduced owing to evacuation, and the following table shows the
monthly averages. The demand for accommodation at the Wickham
Nursery has returned almost to normal, and owing to the fact that
the Coney Hall Nursery has not been opened, a number of children
from that area-are accommodated at the Wickham Nursery.
The attendances at Beckenham Road have remained low up to
the end of the year, but now show signs of increasing.
Considerable difficulty has been experienced with staffing the
Nurseries, and the Matrons, are to be congratulated on the high
standard of care and welfare thev have maintained.

Dr. Thomson has supervised the health of the children in attendance and all children have been immunised against Diphtheria and Whooping Cough.
