BECKENHAM AND PENGE JOINT MATERNITY HOME
This Home was opened on the 1st August, 1920, with accommodation
for 10 beds, which has since been increased to 14 beds.
The figures give the number of mothers admitted during 1938, with comparative figures.

STAFF.
The Nursing Staff consists of a Matron, Assistant Matron, and
three trained Midwives as Staff Nurses and two Probationers. There
are also pupils receiving training.
The accommodation consists of
Two general wards, each containing 4 beds.
One ward containing 4 cubicles.
Two private rooms.
A Theatre or Labour Ward, nursery, sterilising room.
An Isolation Block, containing 2 wards, kitchen, accommodation
for the nursing staff engaged in the block.
FEES PAYABLE.
The scale of fees drawn up by the Committee in 1930 was
revised last year, to provide for a more gradual increase in fees
and an increase in the higher income grades.
TRAINING OF MIDWIVES.
The Home is recognised by the Ministry of Health and the
Central Midwives' Board as a Training Centre for Midwives, and is
allowed to have 5 pupils in training. Since its inception as a Training
Centre in 1923, 79 pupils have been trained and passed the
examination of the Central Midwives' Board; 7 passing in 1938.
