The substance used in the test is a toxin prepared from hæmolytic
streptococci isolated from the throat of Scarlet Fever patients
and is injected into the skin. If certain changes occur in the skin
in and around the site of injection it indicates that the patient is
susceptible to Scarlet Fever.
