Notification of Time of Slaughter.—Sections 8 and 9 of the
Regulations provide for notice being given to the Local Authority
(Health Department) not less than three hours before the time of
slaughtering so that an Inspector may be present and examine the
carcases and internal organs.
Eighty one such notices were received, and a Sanitary Inspector
was present at the time or immediately after slaughter. Attendance
by the Sanitary Inspector at the slaughter houses involves a considerable
amount of work outside office hours, as slaughtering is
frequently carried out in the evenings.
Unsound Food.—The following quantities of food exposed for
sale were found to be unsound and unfit for food and were seized
or surrendered and destroyed: —
232 lbs. Meat (including: Pig carcase, 96 lbs.; and Pig
Head, 12 lbs., affected with tuberculosis).
24 Cauliflowers.
40 lbs. Apples.
Food Poisoning.—No instance of food poisoning was brought
to our notice during the year. Two instances where patients have
contracted para-typhoid fever from infected pastry or cakes are
referred to on pag'e 47.
Bakehouses.—There are 13 Bakehouses in the District, and these
were systematically inspected and cleansing carried out v here
necessary.
SALE OF FOOD AND DRUGS ACTS.
Eighty-one samples were purchased during the year under these
Acts and submitted to analysis. The results were as follows: —
