some arrangement for cooling the milk. In the cowsheds there is
provision for the milkers to wash their hands and the udders of the
cows, and a number of the milkers wear clean washable overalls.
The dairies and cowsheds are subject to systematic inspection,
and the Orders and Regulations which relate to them are enforced.
The Milk and Dairies (Consolidation) Act, 1915.—This Act,
which was passed in the year 1915, has, after two postponements,
been brought into operation on the 1st September, 1925. It is a
Consolidating Act, and probably its most valuable sections are
(a) those which give power to the Minister of Health to make what

to prevent the sale of tuberculous milk.
The Act makes certain amendments in the Sale of Food and
Drugs Acts as to sampling milk in course of delivery, and it attempts

Licences to sell "certified" milk 5
Licences to sell "pasteurised'' milk 1
In accordance with the arrangements of the Ministry of Health
4 samples of "certified" milk were taken and submitted to bacteriological
examination. The "certified" milk sold in the District
comes from 5 different producers, but it is only in respect of the
milk of one of these that the District Council has to take samples for
bacteriological examination.
One licence has been granted for "pasteurising" milk, the
apparatus in this instance is the "positive holder" type, and
