Smoke Abatement:—
Observation has been kept during the year on the following
chimneys which are within the District or adjacent to the
Boundary:—
Oriental Rug Improvement Company, Croydon Road.
The Electricity Works, B.U.D.C., Churchfields Road.
The Metropolitan Water Board Works, Valley Road,
Shortlands.
The Dust Destructor, Lewisham Borough Council.
At the Electricity Works, where the process of burning House
refuse is combined with the generation of electricity, special attention
has been given to stoking, and the smoke and fumes are now
passed through a chamber where the temperature is raised to a
very high point with very good results, so far as reducing the smoke
nuisance is concerned.
It was not necessary to take action in respect of any of the
above mentioned chimneys during 1925.
