employment, of which number it was necessary to refuse two applicants
on medical grounds. Street trading is permissible to boys
of 15 years, although licence is refused girls under 16 years, no prior
medical examinations being required of applicants. Certain
conditions, however, such as mental defect, prevent street trading
being engaged in.
(22) SPECIAL ENQUIRIES.
There have been no special enquiries within the meaning of
the Board of Education. There is plenty of work waiting to be
done, and I hope the time will soon come when, not only in Barking
hut throughout the country, it will be recognised that staffs should
lie sufficiently large to allow a reasonable amount of research to be
undertaken.
(23) MISCELLANEOUS.
Three young persons who desired to become bursars and
student teachers were medically examined during the year by a
private medical practitioner, none being rejected on medical
grounds.
