CAUSES OF DEATH
In 1968 the World Health Organisation introduced the Eighth Revision of
the International Classification of Diseases and consequently the Registrar General's
short list of 36 causes of death used for analysis of mortality by Medical Officers
of Health was revised to accord with the new classifications.
The Registrar General's revised list contains 50 main causes of death with
some further sub-divisions to improve comparability with the previous list.
