Illegitimate infant death rate 38.46 per 1,000 illegitimate

CONGENITAL ABNORMALITIES
The Ministry of Health is now paying much more attention to the
occurrence of any congenital abnormalities, both in live children and
those vho are stillborn.
By means of post-mortem examinations, a surprising number of
internal congenital abnormalities have been brought to light and a
great stimulus has been given to research into this problem.
It may e that post-mortem examinations will become a routine
"ocedure in all cases of early infant deaths.

The causes of death in 1963 are as follows:

Diseases of the Stomach and Digestive System 12
Tuberculosis and other Infectious Diseases 7

Pregnancy, Childbirth and Abortion -
Total 750
Crude death rate per 1,000 estimated population 10.41
Adjusted death rate (comparability factor 1.23) = 12.80
Of the 167 deaths froni malignant diseases, 54 were attributed
to cancer of the lung and 48 of the 54 were men.
