SANITARY CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE AREA.
(1) RAINFALL.
The rainfall for the year ended 31st December, 1939s
was 24.05 inches, as compared with 14.42 inches for the
previous year.
Rain fell on 172 days in the year 1939.
(2) DRAINAGE AND SEWERAGE.
Drainage arrangements continue as heretofore.
(3) RIVERS AND STREAMS.
The rivers and streams running through the area are
tidal in character and are not controlled by the Corporation.
Attention is directed to the continued unsatisfactory condition'
obtaining in the River Roding.
(4) CLOSET ACCOMMODATION.
At the end of the year there remained a total of 16
premises unconnected with the sewer, nine of which 'ere factory
premises.
(5) PUBLIC CLEANSING.
During the year, 9,190 loads of refuse were collected,
with an average weight of 1 ton 19 cwts.
(6) REFUSE DISPOSAL.
All the refuse collected in the Borough was deposited
at the Corporation tip which is situated on the North Bank of
the Roding, near the Kingsbridge Wharf.
(7) SANITARY INSPECTION OF THE AREA.
Emergency and war conditions have interfered seriously.
