The various Government Publications dealing with cancer have been circularised
amongst the local practitioners; this together with the liaison which exists between
the local practitioners and the expert pathologists and surgeons of the large London
Hospitals has made it unnecessary for any local activity on the part of the Council.
7. PREVENTION OF BLINDNESS.
Blindness is being prevented in Barking; it is being prevented by the
co-operation of the whole of the services.
One of the chief causes of blindness is Ophthalmia Neonatorum, which is a
purulent discharge from the eyes of an infant, commencing within twenty-one days
of its birth.
