7. LABORATORY WORK.
The necessary laboratory work of the district is carried out by arrangement with the Essex County Council at the Counties' Laboratory, situated in Queen Victoria Street, London, E.C.4, particulars of the number of specimens submitted for examination being supplied by the following table:—
Specimen | Number examined | |||
---|---|---|---|---|
Diphtheria | 1,509 | |||
Sputa | 511 | |||
Typhoid | 22 | |||
Ringworm | 6 | |||
Miscellaneous | 6 |
The work carried out by the Counties' Laboratories of Queen
Victoria Street is of a very high order, and it is not open to criticism,
except in so far as that, of course, it is difficult to get reports through
sometimes so quickly as one would wish.
This criticism deals specially with diphtheria swabs.
You may decide, as and when your new hospital is open for
infectious diseases, to make provision to carry out a certain number
of these bacteriological examinations yourself in cases of suspected
diphtheria.
