PHYSICAL FEATURES AND GENERAL CHARACTER
OF THE AREA.
The Urban District of Barking extends over the area of the
parish of that name, and lias an acreage of 4,106, 300 acres
being watercourses. It is bounded on the North by liford, on
the South by North Woolwich and the River Thames, on the
East by Dagenham, and on the West by East Ham, and
includes well defined district's spoken of as Rippleside, Faircross,
Creeksmouth, and a portion of the L.C.C. Becontree Estate.
450 acres are developed residentially and 320 acres industrially,
the number of houses and persons to the acre being 1.8
and 9.3 respectively.
